Classic Pachuco style is alive at @elpachucozootsuits ?

Popular in the 1940s with origins in the jazz halls of Harlem, these suits are an essential part of both African American and Chicano culture.

Original zootsuits from the era are hard to come by and took curators at LACMA over a decade to find one, costing nearly $80,000, an auction record for an item of 20th-century menswear. ?

Today you can find custom, handmade zootsuits at the oldest and only standing specialty shop, El Pachuco Zoot Suits. A store dreamed up by Poderosa ✨ Phyllis Estrella in 1978 and today is still owned and operated by all of her familia.

El Pachuco Zoot Suits has created custom suits for Luis Valdez’s Zoot Suit, The Mask, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, Roco of Mexican rock band Maldita Vecindad, and countless others.

Check out @elpachucozootsuits for más! ? Gracias Vanessa for the tour and for keeping la cultura alive!
