The breeds name, XOLOITZCUINTLE, derives from the Aztec language “Náhuatl” and is composed of two names: XOLOTL: Aztec god & ITZCUINTLI – Dog. Hence meaning “god’s dog” a guardian of the underworld and dog who guides the soul of the dead to the spirit world.✨
