On this #CésarChávezDay we remember las palabras and work of César Chávez. A few 🔑 achievements: ⠀1946: At the age of 19 he served the U.S. Navy. 1960’s: He co-founded the National Farm Workers Association now known as the United Farm Workers along side of Dolores Huerta. Thru his lifetime his commitment to farm workers helped campesinos gain fair wages, lunch breaks and access to restrooms or clean water in fields across California. ⠀ He restrained from violent protests and opted for nonviolent tactics to get his message across. Thru multiple hunger strikes Chavez gained the attention and support of many leaders including Reverend Jesse Jackson, Robert Kennedy, and Martin Luther King, Jr. ⠀ 2014: Barack Obama decreed March 31st as Cesar Chavez Day. Additionally honoring him with a monument in Keene, California. ⠀ 2020: Each year the PepsiCo Cesar Chavez Latino Scholarship provides $300k in scholarship awards to qualified Latino students in Arizona and California regardless of national origin or immigration status.
