Ynés Mexía: Botanical Pioneer

Lifestyle1 year ago3 Views

Hoy @Google Doodle celebrates Latina Poderosa; 🇲🇽 Ynés Enriquetta Julietta Mexía! Ynés was a Mexican-American botanist 👩🏽‍🔬🌱born in Washington D.C. in 1870, known for her collection of plant specimens from Mexico y South America. She braved earthquakes, bogs, poisonous plants and even fell off a cliff fracturing her hand and ribs for the sake of 🔬research. Although she never completed her degree, Ynés became one of the most celebrated collectors of 🌱botanical specimens in history, gathering some 150,000 specimens throughout her career. 90 years after she started, scientists are still studying the work of Ynés, with many plant specimens she collected still housed in a number of major institutions around the world. Gracias #Google for highlighting this mujer poderosa! #googledoodle #latinx #hispanicheritagemonth #latinaspoderosas #latina
