Libros1 year ago4 Views

Julia Constanza Burgos García was a poet & journalist from Puerto Rico. 🇵🇷 Ella’s energetic poetry on feminism and social equality deeply influenced many Afro-Caribbeans who came after her. At age 19, she graduated with a teaching degree from the University of Puerto Rico. 📚 She later joined the Daughters of Freedom and the women’s branch of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party. De Burgos was actively committed to supporting feminism and the Nuyorican Movement! ✊🏽 Julia proudly celebrated her blackness in her poem “Ay, Ay, Ay de la Grifa Negra.” POEM SNIPPET: oh oh oh, I’m a faucet and pure black/faucet in my hair, kaffery on my lips/and my flat Mozambican nose
