La Ballerina/Bailarina Cubana, Alicia Alonso 🇨🇺 Alicia is considered one of the greatest 20th Century ballerinas despite losing her sight at only 19 years old. “They told me I’d never dance again. Well, I did dance again.” Relying on only stage lights to guide her Alicia continued her dancing career in NYC where she would become famous for her portrayals of Giselle and the ballet version of Carmen. Later in life she founded the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, inspired the creation of a popular perfume named after her, and an ice cream parlor still standing today, Heladería Coppelia (named after one of her most famous roles).
