¡Viva México y las Mujeres of Independencia! 🇲🇽 During a time when Mujeres had limited opportunities we remember the many Mujeres that took part en la lucha for independencia as nurses, soldadas, allies y mas.⠀ ⠀ We’ll spotlight 3 Mujeres Poderosas although there’s many who also risked their lives for la patria:⠀ ⠀ ✊🏽Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez, known as La Corregidora is one of the most important heroines of 🇲🇽’s Independence. She helped alert Miguel Hidalgo to declare war against the Spanish on the night of September 15. Her courage prompted el Grito de Dolores that signaled the start of the Mexican War of Independence.⠀ ⠀ ✊🏽Gertrudis Bocanegra, carried important messages between rebel groups, and organized an underground army of women that included her own daughters to join in the fight. She was captured, imprisoned, and before her execution yelled: “Purépechas no se dejen, esta tierra pertenece a ustedes…” ✊🏽Mariana Rodríguez del Toro (mujer in photo above) upon learning about the arrest of Miguel Hidalgo planned against the Spanish and organized men to help capture Virrey Francisco Javier Venegas. Her goal: to take him to La Suprema Junta in exchange for Hidalgo and other independentistas. However her plan was leaked, the Virrey was alerted and she was detained and imprisoned along w her husband. Arriba las Mujeres ✊🏽
