Entertainment1 year ago2 Views

Cubana 🇨🇺 Estelita Rodriguez born on July 2, 1928 in Guanajay, Cuba was a actress best known for her roles in many Roy Rogers Republic westerns, and her role in Howard Hawks’ western classic Rio Bravo. Her career started at the young age of 14. She was famously known as the “Cuban Fireball” or “Fiery Señorita” Estelita faced typecasting in Hollywood, often playing the role of the exotic female with a thick accent, and over sexualized appearance. Many times portraying “Mexican border girl” rescued by a white male in Western films, a popular role during the era. Rita Moreno also faced similar stereotypes and is quoted describing the Latina role as; “Latinas. You now the kind I mean – spitfires, girls with wild tempers.” Estelita stepped away from Hollywood frustrated at the lack of diverse opportunities available to her. Sadly she passed away in her North Hollywood/Van Nuys, California, home, at age 37 leaving her mark in western movies.
