Rosita Fernandez: Tejano Pioneer

Once ‘San Antonio’s First Lady of Song’ & if you’ve visited San Antonio’s River Walk you’ve probably walked over her bridge: Rosita Fernandez ✨Born in 1918, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, Rosita’s family first moved to Laredo, Texas in 1924 before settling in San Antonio in 1927. 🎤: A pioneer in Tejano music from the 1940s to 1960s and an ambassador of San Antonio cultura, Rosita Fernandez was considered “San Antonio’s First Lady of Song.” Singing mostly corridos, Rosita rose to fame in a male-dominated genre paving the way for future mujeres (like Selena) and was inducted into the Tejano Music Hall of Fame. 🎞: Not only did she sing but also performed in numerous movies, including “The Alamo” con John Wayne. 📍 Check: Visit San Antonio today and you can’t miss the bridge dedicated to her in 1982, “Rosita’s Bridge” over the San Antonio River.
